Sam Hill is a photographer based in Charlotte, North Carolina. He received his BFA from Savannah College of Art and Design.

"The images for this series are printed onto 36 x 54 inch synthetic silk satin that is stretched onto a frame like a painter’s canvas. The sheen of the synthetic silk gives a three-dimensional quality while referencing both the oily appearance of starling feathers and a synthetic attempt to reproduce/improve upon nature.

One of the challenges I set out early on was for this series to include only trees, sky, and the birds themselves in the images. By only allowing this minimalist set of elements in the frame, I can more thoroughly explore the possibilities of each."
